The Philosophy of Beating Insomnia: Learn More, Buy Less

There’s something genuinely exciting about seeing a business you’ve built from scratch finally start to come together. Especially when you’ve done it on a tiny budget, with very little outside support, and a whole lot of determination.

That’s where I am with Snuuz right now.

The website is taking shape, the PDFs and bundles are looking fantastic, and the big launch is getting closer, where I'll have all resources, products, courses, and bundles available. But this isn't a sales pitch; it's me explaining why I've taken this long, difficult journey to create a veritable library of sleep info to the world at a discount rate.

If you’re reading this, you might be one of the first people to explore the website in its new form. Welcome! You may remember it as Sleep Alchemy, but the rebrand to Snuuz, a sleep school, reflects something much deeper than a change of name. It reflects a philosophy that sits at the very heart of everything this project stands for.

The Philosophy of "Learn More, Buy Less"

It sounds simple and even a little underwhelming, but the entire philosophy behind spending five years writing my book and two more years building this business is this:

If you truly want to fix your sleep, you've got to learn about it.

We live in a world full of sleep products, supplements, gadgets and increasingly sophisticated technologies. Some are genuinely useful, and I’ve met people who have benefited enormously from them. There are some really incredible inventions out there today. Sometimes, buying more stuff is helpful, but that in itself is a risk and may not provide the truly satisfying, consistent sleep you're looking for.

Naturally, there’s also a lot of overhyped marketing, products that don't live up to their promises, and expensive accessories that may help with a symptom without addressing the underlying problem.

Some people spend thousands, sometimes tens of thousands (I've seen it), trying to find the thing that will finally fix their sleep. And if you happen to find that one thing that works for you, that's wonderful. But sleep is rarely quite that simple.

Even some of the best products out there will address one part of a big puzzle. Often, they'll do it well, but it'll still be very limited in nature. It won't fix your routines, your diet, your dopamine, and maybe not even your cortisol. It won't rewire your brain significantly, it may not last forever, or be transportable, or even fix the primary issue that's keeping you awake.

Often, the more lasting solution comes from understanding what's happening in your body and brain, identifying the factors contributing to your difficulties, and learning how to address them together. Because insomnia is almost always due to a number of issues compounding and interacting, which may be increasing things like cortisol and glutamate levels in your system or blocking melatonin release. Then, when you find a good product that helps temporarily balance some of these, your symptoms get relieved momentarily but then come right back -- and then you're dependent on a machine or a chemical remedy that's being a band-aid over a deeper, more significant issue.

That’s why I believe in learn more, buy less. Not because products never have a place, but because understanding your sleep gives you something that no single product can promise: the ability to make informed decisions about what you actually need.

From struggling every night to sleeping 9–10 hours

After everything, this philosophy I'm writing to you about now isn't just an idea I find appealing. It's personal.

For around two years, I struggled with sleep almost every night. I might have gotten a small handful of hours, if that, and even when I did sleep, it was rarely satisfying.

Today, I can consistently sleep for nine to ten hours a night without sleeping pills or supplements, without fancy gadgets, and without an elaborate collection of sleep accessories. I've learned to work smarter, not harder, for my sleep.

What changed wasn't one magical purchase; it was learning how sleep works, understanding my own body and brain, and discovering how to create the conditions that allow sleep to happen. Of course, I still appreciate the value of a few well-chosen essentials, like my sleep mask and a small bottle of lavender oil. But the real difference came from knowledge.

And while everyone's sleep journey is different, I want other people to know that there's so much they can learn and try before assuming that the answer must be another product.

Why I've been creating sleep PDFs

This is a big part of why I'm so excited about the resources I'm building at Snuuz.

I want to make learning about sleep more accessible, practical, and manageable. Whether you're trying to understand insomnia, explore healthier sleep habits, or simply make sense of why you're not sleeping as well as you'd like, good information is a valuable place to start.

The sleep PDFs and bundles are designed to help bring that information together in a format you can work through at your own pace. Rather than endlessly searching online, jumping between conflicting opinions or buying things in the hope that something will work, you can start building a clearer picture of your sleep and what might help.

While nothing can be guaranteed for everyone to "fix" their sleep--especially within a handful of days--knowledge is by far the most sustainable, and most affordable, way to get back to natural, healthy, consistent sleep. You can take it anywhere with you, teach your family, and optimise your life from this day forth.

On top of that, it's rarely understood that this isn't just restricted to sleep as some isolated factor. Sleep quality, in many ways, is really a measure of health. You'll find that these resources don't just speak to the process of getting to sleep, but looks at this subject holistically -- factors like inflammation, blood glucose, overstimulation, stress, circadian and ultradian rhythms, nutrition, light exposure, and much more. Basically, we're learning how to optimise our health and our biological system so that it has the ability to perform its natural functions. Sleep just happens to be one of them.

A healthy sleep PDF might sound like a small thing, and even a boring thing at face value, but the right learning resource can be a life-changing step towards meaningful change. I've had a lot of fun creating them, so I hope you'll have fun reading them.

And that's what I want Snuuz to offer: not another reason to spend money, but a way to understand your sleep better, make more confident choices and discover where your efforts are most likely to make a difference. While you'll spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars playing roulette with products online, I've built this website, this business, this school, to offer excellent resources at very low costs. Because as someone who used to be lost and frustrated when it came to sleep, with not much to spend on fancy sleep gadgets or even quality items like sheets and masks, this is the library of information I wish I'd had.

Learning to sleep again

Of course, learning about sleep isn't always a quick fix. It can take time, experimentation and patience to understand what's going on and find the right combination of changes for you. Persistent sleep problems can also need professional assessment and treatment.

But there's something deeply satisfying about gradually learning to work with your body and mind rather than constantly fighting them. To understand your sleep, recognise your patterns and discover what genuinely makes a difference.

That's the bigger vision behind Snuuz.

The website is getting closer to its launch, and I can't wait to share more of what I've been working on. For now, if you're here early, have a look around, explore the resources and see what resonates with you.

Because better sleep doesn't always start with buying something new.

Sometimes, it starts with learning something new.
